Mt. Carmel is the image that John of the Cross uses to describe the spiritual journey. He compares it to climbing a mount. Climbing the mountain brings out the effort it takes on our part. John says that we’ll never be able to climb Mt. Carmel on our effort—unless God acts in our life, our
